Welcome to the world of spreadsheets! Think of a spreadsheet as a giant grid or a digital graph notebook. In India, whether you are using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, the layout remains the same. The vertical blocks are called Columns and are named with letters like A, B, and C. The horizontal blocks are called Rows and are named with numbers like 1, 2, and 3. The exact spot where a row and column meet is called a Cell. Every cell has an address, like A1 or B10. Today, your goal is to get comfortable with basic data entry. Imagine you are tracking your Term 1 and Term 2 marks. In cell A1, you might type Subject. In B1, you type Term 1, and in C1, you type Term 2. Then, fill in subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English below. Typing data is as simple as clicking a cell and writing. Formatting is what makes your data readable. You can make your headers bold to make them stand out, just like you use a black pen for headings in your physical notebook. You can change the background color of cells to categorize them or add borders so the table looks neat. To do this, look for the toolbar at the top which has icons for Bold (B), Fill Color (a paint bucket), and Borders. Good formatting ensures that anyone looking at your sheet can understand the information instantly without getting confused by a wall of plain text.
